John's Notes

My hope is that this site will give you the information you need concerning some of the ministries of our church. The music ministry of First Baptist includes our adult choir which meets on Wednesdays at 6:00 p.m. For those who cannot come to Wednesday evening rehearsals, there is a makeup practice on Sundays at 5:00 p.m. The adult choir is open for anyone age 16 and up who enjoys singing and praising the Lord through music. The purpose of the adult choir ministry is to lead the congregation in worshipping God.

Singing opportunities abound for the children of our church. Connie Melloway directs the Agape Choir for kindergarten-sixth grade children. The children present a Christmas musical drama and sing at the annual VBS musical program. They also perform at other selected services throughout the year. See the Kids' Korner for more information about these activities. Stephanie Troutt and other preschool Sunday School workers direct the preschool choir. These little ones sing at Christmas, Easter, and during the VBS program.

Our youth praise team (grades 7-12) is led by Nikki Leake, wife of youth director, Mike Leake. This group rehearses on Wednesdays at 6:00 p.m. before youth group which begins at 7:00 p.m.

The ministry of education at First Baptist includes a fully-graded program of Bible study, discipleship training, missions education, music education and media services. We have many lay leaders involved in these areas, but there's always room for more servants of the Lord.

Let me introduce myself . . .

I grew up in Cabool, Missouri where I attended elementary and high school. I received a B. S. in Education degree from Southwest Missouri State University (now Missouri State University) in Springfield, Missouri. Before surrendering to full-time ministry, I taught stringed instruments and orchestra for seven years in public schools. I have done graduate work at the University of Missouri at Kansas City and Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary at St. Louis.

As minister of Music and Youth or Music and Education, I have been blessed to serve in several Missouri churches: Carpenter Street Baptist Church, Moberly; Concord Baptist Church, Jefferson City; Calvary Baptist Church, Hannibal; and Friendship Baptist Church, Mexico.

Presently, I am serving as Minister of Music and Education at First Baptist Church, New London, Missouri.  As Minister of Music I direct the adult choir and lead congregational singing. I also coordinate solos, small ensembles and other lead musical activities. I believe that music should be a tool to encourage people to worship God in spirit and in truth.  As Minister of Education, I work with the Sunday School, Bus Ministry, Discipleship Training, and Missions organizations to obey and follow Jesus’ Great Commandment and His Great Commission.
